Live Webinar: Urinary Albumin Strip Assay as a Screening Test to Replace Quantitative Technology
Sysmex UK Microbiology Training Week
9th-13th August 2021
LIVE: 10th August 2021 at 10-11am
The clinical laboratory plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and monitoring of chronic kidney disease (CKD).
The quantitative measurement of urine albumin in a spot sample, expressed as ratio per creatinine (ACR), is the most frequently used biomarker for such purposes. This webinar will provide insights into the diagnostic performance of a strip for measuring ACR in order to differentiate patients who are candidates for subsequent albumin quantification. Savings in reagent can be used to design and implement interventions to improve the diagnosis of chronic kidney disease and the monitoring of patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes.
Join us and discover possibilities for optimisation of the laboratory workflow, economic savings and clinical benefits in context of albuminuria screening.

Webinar Recording: Point-of-care testing for kidney disease - Lessons learnt from a resource-limited setting in South Africa
Sysmex UK Microbiology Training Week
9th-13th August 2021
The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is predicted to rise over the next few decades, with disproportionately high representation set to come from low and middle-income countries. In such settings, access to centralised laboratory services is often limited, hindering early detection and patient monitoring.
Point-of-care testing, such as the use of urine dipstick analysis, may offer unique opportunities to improve patient care, especially when combined with semi-automated reading devices. Placing point-of-care testing alongside laboratory testing offers the potential to detect ‘classic’ markers of chronic kidney disease such as albuminuria, as well as less commonly explored markers such as haematuria, which may have added significance in certain settings.
This talk will explore a point-of-care approach in a resource-limited setting in South Africa.

Added Value Webinar: Infection Monitoring
This webinar is intended for those who wish to learn more about the Extended Inflammation parameters that can be provided on the XN-Series Haematology systems. The Infection Monitoring webinar covers how these parameters can potentially assist in the differentiation between inflammation without infection, and inflammation resulting from infection. Additional parameters such as the NEUT-GI, NEUT-RI, RE-LYMPH, AS-LYMPH and RE-MONO have been shown to be useful in this area along with the ability to differentiate between, and identify, bacterial and viral infections. In addition, these parameters can help determine if the response to the infection is early or late stage. The webinar will also cover the added value of the WPC application to provide users with the highest level of confidence that reactive and malignant conditions are specifically identified correctly. These additional parameters and software are derived from the XN-DIFF, XN-CBC and WPC applications; however, you may not be aware of their existence or potential ‘Added Value’.

Added Value Webinar: Blood Bank & HPC Mode
This webinar is intended for those who wish to learn of the additional parameters that the Sysmex applications can provide on the XN series Haematology systems. The Blood bank and HPC modes webinar covers the two additional haematology modes that can be installed onto the XN-Series FBC modules. Blood Bank mode offers users a plug-in licence for XN-1000 and XN-2000 systems, to meet the needs of blood transfusion laboratories and provide measurement of all required quality monitoring parameters in blood products for blood banks and transfusion labs. The Blood Bank mode has already been described as a potential alternative to flow cytometric methods for residual WBC counting, but also has the ability to simultaneously count residual RBC in blood products.
The HPC mode offers users a fast, accurate and cheaper alternative of haematopoietic progenitor cell counting when compared to CD34+ testing and offers significant benefits in all three phases of the apheresis process. This leads to a more efficient apheresis process thanks to overall cost reduction and an improvement in the quality of treatment for the donors.
